Overview

Peru is the fifth most biodiverse country in the world, and the third most forested, containing 13% of the Amazon rainforest. But this rich natural heritage is at risk from climate change and other natural hazards. Tsunamis, floods, rising sea levels, drought and earthquakes are threatening the country’s ecosystems and its people’s ability to thrive. As key economic sectors like forestry and fishing suffer, insurance and risk finance can bolster financial resilience and increase protection for those who need it most.

UNDP’s Insurance and Risk Finance Facility is providing technical assistance to Peru’s government, helping to increase institutional capacity and build an enabling environment to create innovative and effective insurance and risk finance solutions.
