Overview

With the largest population in the world, the Asia-Pacific region is among the most vulnerable to climate change and disaster risk. Extreme weather events, increasing temperatures and rising sea levels endanger lives and livelihoods, especially among the most vulnerable groups. Rapid economic growth has raised 1.5 billion people in the region out of extreme poverty in just a few generations; insurance and risk finance solutions can help ensure this progress is not derailed.

UNDP is working with government and industry to protect people, economic activities and ecologies in Asia-Pacific. Our initiatives incorporate insurance and risk finance solutions in policy frameworks, stimulate insurance innovation and reinforce enabling environments, build financial resilience for small businesses and smallholder farmers and provide protection for threatened ecosystems.
