This event aims to build awareness around the opportunity for Takaful, a shariah-compliant insurance alternative, to build the financial resilience of vulnerable communities, especially in countries with significant Muslim populations. The event will feature the launch of the IsDB – UNDP report, Insuring a Sustainable Future: Building climate resilience through Takaful, and along with the commitments to further develop a public-private Takaful Alliance.
Key Themes and Objectives:
- This event will showcase the opportunities for Takaful to scale financial protection for vulnerable communities and widen the development and reach of Takaful solutions against climate risks in developing countries.
- It builds on the Takaful leaders’ roundtables held in Kuwait and Riyadh, which were attended by industry experts, development leaders, (re)Takaful experts, regulators and discussed the lack of insurance in Muslim-majority countries, to discuss the vast potential of Takaful and visionary concept of establishing a global Alliance for Takaful.
- During the roundtables, stakeholders at the event reaffirmed their commitment and support to the ambitious goal of reducing the financial vulnerability of 100 million people in countries with significant Muslim populations by 2030.
- To accomplish this objective, a call was made for the development of a Takaful Alliance to support the creation of an enabling environment, provide training and capacity building, develop Takaful products and solutions, and offer financial support for premiums (contributions).
